The Hidden Novel – Every manuscript has unexplored dimensions. In this workshop, you'll learn how to enrich your novel with extra character layers, changing relationships, dilemmas and plights, wonder, and the hidden current that pulls readers through a story even more strongly than plot.

This is a master level, hands-on workshop for writers who consider themselves advanced in their craft, with four writing assignments spread over two weeks. Presented by New York literary agent and teacher Donald Maass, author of Writing the Breakout Novel, Writing the Breakout Novel Workbook, The Fire in Fiction and Writing 21st Century Fiction.

Who should take this class? (e.g. What does 'master level' mean ?)

  • Serious, experienced writers
  • Those who have taken at least two other craft workshops through WFWA. (Basically this should not be your first craft workshop).
  • Those looking to take their book to the next level
  • Those willing to share their work with others and provide critical feedback to help insure their peers’ success (ideally you have some experience in providing helpful feedback to other writers).

Only those willing to share their work with others and provide critical feedback to help insure their peers’ success should register for this class. You will be expected to set aside time to participate most days during the class (expect at least an hour a day, at times more). Those who wish to obtain the lessons only (in MS Word format) will be able to purchase them for a nominal fee after the class ends.

Registration opens April 10 (for May workshop) at 12pm (noon) Eastern Time / 9am Pacific Time. Cost is $60
